Electrolytes

Electrolytes, such as sodium, potassium, and chloride, are often overlooked in the pre-workout category. These essential minerals play a vital role in several physiological functions, such as maintaining fluid balance, nerve and muscle function, ph balance, hydration, nutrient transport, and temperature regulation. A lack of electrolytes may lead to headaches, fatigue, cramps, and reduced performance.
Consuming electrolytes throughout the day is recommended, however, it’s especially beneficial to have them before, during, and after workouts.
Every serving of intake contains the following electrolytes:
  • 297 mg of chloride from pink himalayan salt
  • 200 mg of sodium from pink himalayan salt
  • 100 mg of potassium from potassium citrate

Maximum performance matrix

L-Citrulline - 8 grams

One of the most common ingredients in the pre-workout category is l-citrulline a non-essential amino acid and for a good reason! L-citrulline seems to be more effective than l-arginine at raising arginine levels in the body, leading to a boost in nitric oxide production.
Nitric oxide is a vasodilator, meaning it causes the blood vessels to relax and expand, leading to improved blood flow. L-citrulline is also involved in the urea cycle, a process that helps remove excess nitrogen from the body. L-citrulline is naturally found in watermelons and cucumbers, but the body is also capable of producing it on its own.
Intake is loaded with 8 grams of l-citrulline to promote better blood flow, nutrient delivery, pumps, and performance!

Beta-Alanine - 3.2 grams

Similar to l-citrulline, beta-alanine is a non-essential amino acid, meaning that the body can produce it naturally. However, supplementing with beta-alanine increases the amount of carnosine in skeletal muscle. Carnosine is a compound formed by beta-alanine and l-histidine that acts as a buffer to help regulate ph balance during high-intensity exercise.
This mechanism of action improves overall athletic performance and muscular endurance, especially during activities that are shorter in duration but higher in effort, such as sprinting and weight lifting. A common side effect of beta-alanine is paraesthesia, a tingling sensation on the skin. The mechanism of paraesthesia caused by beta-alanine is not fully understood, but it’s speculated that beta-alanine interacts with sensory neurons in the skin.
It’s important to note that not everyone will feel this sensation and some individuals will feel it more than others. It’s a harmless and temporary side effect that subsides with extended use. Intake contains 3.2 grams of beta-alanine in two scoops, so if you’re not a fan of beta-alanine, we recommend starting with 1 scoop to increase your tolerance of it.

Betaine Anhydrous - 2.5 grams

Betaine anhydrous, also known as trimethylglycine, is a naturally occurring compound that’s a derivative of the amino acid glycine. It’s found in several foods such as beets, spinach, and whole grains.
Betaine is involved in numerous physiological processes, including:
  • Methylation
  • Osmoregulation
  • Liver function
When it comes to exercise performance, osmoregulation is arguably betaine’s primary benefit in response to stress or changes in its environment. Osmoregulation involves regulating cellular hydration and osmotic balance.
Betaine anhydrous is often included in pre-workouts thanks to its ergogenic benefits, such as increased power, strength, endurance, and recovery. Some evidence suggests that it can help improve body composition by assisting with muscle gain and fat loss. Intake contains 2.5 grams of betaine anhydrous for optimal benefits.

ElevATP® (ancient peat extract & apple extract) - 150 milligrams

The first trademarked ingredient in intake is elevatp® from futureceuticals. This ingredient is a patented ancient peat and apple extract, designed to support energy production in the body.
Ancient peat extract contains various bioactive compounds, such as fulvic acid, which express antioxidant properties and may support cellular function. The apple extract is rich in polyphenols, which are known for their antioxidant potential.
Elevatp®’s proposed mechanism of action is boosting the body’s production of adenosine triphosphate (atp), which is the primary energy currency of cells. By supporting atp production, it may enhance energy levels, exercise performance, and overall vitality.

Senactiv® - 50 milligrams

The next branded ingredient in this formula is senactiv®, a patented combination of panax notoginseng root and rosa roxburghii fruit. Senactiv® is one of the first sports nutraceutical ingredients that elevates exercise endurance, recovery, and energy by rapidly clearing senescent cells and promoting muscle cell regeneration.
Senescent cells are any cells that stop multiplying, dividing, or growing, that need to be removed. Getting rid of these cells, especially in muscle tissue, allows for the generation of new cells. Senescent cells are typically removed by phagocytes, a specific immune cell. Taking senactiv® before exercise helps speed up this process by activating macrophages for rapid removal of dormant cells.

Senacitv® also supports glycogen storage and energy production by lowering inflammation, enhancing insulin sensitivity, increasing mitochondria density, and reducing lipid peroxidation. Not to mention, it may fast-track muscle fatigue recovery. The clinically studied does is 50 milligrams which is exactly what intake features!

Sustained energy matrix

Caffeine anhydrous & zümxr® extended-release caffeine - 300 milligrams

Besides creatine, caffeine is one of the most widely researched ingredients in sports nutrition. There are various forms of caffeine, but the main one found in intake is caffeine anhydrous.
Caffeine anhydrous is a dehydrated form of caffeine, which just means it contains less water than regular caffeine. Caffeine anhydrous is rather fast-acting, most users feel its effects within 15 to 45 minutes. Since pre-workout is often consumed 15-30 minutes before training, we decided this was the best source to use for immediate benefits.
Zümxr® extended-release caffeine is also included in intake at 50 milligrams to bring the total caffeine content up to 300 milligrams. Zümxr® designed to deliver long-lasting energy without the ‘crash’ associated with most stimulant-based pre-workouts. It delivers ~55% of the total caffeine at 1 hour and not less than ~80% at 6 hours.
The benefits of consuming caffeine before exercise are extensive, here are just a few of the main ones:
  • Increased alertness
  • Reduced fatigue
  • Improved physical performance
  • Enhanced mood
  • Better cognitive function
  • Reduced appetite
Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant that works by blocking adenosine receptors. Although caffeine starts working quickly, its half-life can be anywhere from 3 to 5 hours. So make sure to not use intake within 5-6 hours of sleep. If you’re sensitive to caffeine, we highly recommend speaking with a doctor before taking intake and starting with 1 scoop to assess your tolerance.

Theobromine - 100 milligrams

To round out the sustained energy matrix, we included 100 milligrams of theobromine! This bitter alkaloid is a natural stimulant that belongs to the same family of methylxanthines as caffeine. Theobromine is primarily found in cocoa beans, tea leaves, and coffee beans.
Like caffeine, theobromine acts as a central nervous system stimulant, however, it’s generally a lot milder than caffeine. It may provide a further boost in energy and mental alertness. Theobromine also has some vasodilatory properties, meaning it helps promote blood flow by widening the blood vessels.

Laser focus matrix

L-tyrosine - 2 grams

The laser focus matrix starts strong with 2 grams of l-tyrosine, a powerful nootropic that helps boost cognitive function during periods of stress, such as intense exercise. L-tyrosine is classified as a non-essential amino acid because the body can produce it from another amino acid called phenylalanine.
L-tyrosine plays a crucial role in the production of several hormones and neurotransmitters, such as dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine.
Supplementing with l-tyrosine may help maintain levels of key neurotransmitters during times of stress, resulting in improved cognitive function and performance. Improving dopamine levels alone can result in better mood, higher levels of motivation, and a greater sense of satisfaction.

CDP-Choline - 250mg

Last but not least, intake contains 250 milligrams of cdp-choline, also known as citicoline. This compound is heavily involved in the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine, a major component of cell membranes, and is considered to be an effective nootropic.
When ingested, cdp-choline is broken down into two molecules, choline and cytidine. Choline is an essential nutrient that the body needs to produce acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a key neurotransmitter that’s involved in muscle contractions, cognitive function, nerve impulse transmission, and much more.

Having adequate levels of acetylcholine is crucial for optimal health and performance. On the other hand, cytidine is a specific type of nucleoside, which is the building blocks for dna and rna. Cdp-choline has several beneficial effects, including neuroprotection and cognitive boosting properties.

Intake Suggested Use:
As a dietary supplement, mix 1-2 scoops with 10-12 ounces of cold water. Vary the amount of liquid to suit your taste preference. New users should start with 1 scoop to assess tolerance. For optimal results, consume 20-30 minutes before training. Do not take intake with any other products that contain stimulants. Do not take within 5-6 hours prior to sleep.
